After highly anticipating this book, I feel let down。 I've been getting really tired of the frequent all caps writing that is starting to become more common in this series。 This type of writing is making it very difficult to be immersed in the books。 The writing also seems to be getting more juvenile outside of the all caps writing。 While I understand that this is a children's series, the writing was more mature during the first two story arcs。 This third arc feels simplified compared to the pre After highly anticipating this book, I feel let down。 I've been getting really tired of the frequent all caps writing that is starting to become more common in this series。 This type of writing is making it very difficult to be immersed in the books。 The writing also seems to be getting more juvenile outside of the all caps writing。 While I understand that this is a children's series, the writing was more mature during the first two story arcs。 This third arc feels simplified compared to the previous two arcs。I had a hard time connecting to Snowfall。 She felt flat and she still felt flat by the end of this book。 She was also very prejudiced at the beginning of this book。 This story is supposed to be about her learning to overcome her paranoia and let go of her prejudices。 However, all of this growth is taken from her at the very end。 They also answer the question of what has happened to the animus magic, which was a massive disappointment and one of my most hated fantasy tropes。 。。。more
Lisa,
Watching Snowfall's transformation in this book was awesome。 She had a lot of "growing up" to do, and it was great seeing her change for the better。 I admit, at first my kids and I (as we read these together) were surprised to see an Icewing on the cover, but they tied her into the story in such a great and interesting way。 Very looking forward to reading the finale of this arc as well as the Legends #2 "Dragonslayer" book - now to just figure out which I'm supposed to read first。 Watching Snowfall's transformation in this book was awesome。 She had a lot of "growing up" to do, and it was great seeing her change for the better。 I admit, at first my kids and I (as we read these together) were surprised to see an Icewing on the cover, but they tied her into the story in such a great and interesting way。 Very looking forward to reading the finale of this arc as well as the Legends #2 "Dragonslayer" book - now to just figure out which I'm supposed to read first。 。。。more

Snowfall gets it under controlThe Dangerous Gift is novel 14 in Tui Sutherland's Wings of Fire series。 In this novel we return to Pyrrhia from Pantala, where we have spent most of the most recent novels。 We start off in the Ice Kingdom, where Snowfall has recently become Queen。 To say that she is struggling would be to grossly understate the problem -- she is flailing desperately, and it is obvious despite (indeed, because of) her repeated assertions that she is the Best Queen Ever that she is d Snowfall gets it under controlThe Dangerous Gift is novel 14 in Tui Sutherland's Wings of Fire series。 In this novel we return to Pyrrhia from Pantala, where we have spent most of the most recent novels。 We start off in the Ice Kingdom, where Snowfall has recently become Queen。 To say that she is struggling would be to grossly understate the problem -- she is flailing desperately, and it is obvious despite (indeed, because of) her repeated assertions that she is the Best Queen Ever that she is desperately afraid of not being up to the job。 The last thing she needs is an influx of weird foreign dragons from the distant continent of Pantala。 What's more, these foreign dragons bring news of a desperately bad situation on Pantala and want help。The story takes place almost entirely on Pyrrhia (with a certain partial exception which I can't describe without spoilers)。 A conference of all the queens of Pyrrhian dragons along with representatives of the tribes of Pantala is convened to figure out how to deal with the problem。 Snowfall ends up playing an unexpectedly important role in that conference。 A plan is agreed upon, The upshot of that plan will be the business of The Flames of Hope。 I liked this one a lot。 It is a little bit of a spoiler to say this, but I will keep it vague: Snowfall's personal growth is a large part of the story, and is what makes it a good one。 。。。more

Ellie,
I absolutely love the Wings of Fire series but this would have to be my least favourite。 I am as much a fan as anyone of a wonderful coming of age story, someone who faces up to their own flaws and works to change them。 But in this case Snowfall was just so awful and annoying and whiny for so long it became quite hard to read! I also found the step away from the drama in Pantala to be an I’ll chosen narrative device。 I suspect when I re-read the series in future (which I definitely will!!) This book is the last book of the series :(((((((。 Yes i was addicted to reading this series that I would read every book in a day。 Now my journey is over and I have no future or goal anymore。 I really hope Sutherland makes more books because he's really talented。 This book is actually not from a distant kingdom dragon's point of view, but is actually from a Icewing's point of view, which is very cool because as a reader, I love how the author doesn't just move completely onto a new story, but c This book is the last book of the series :(((((((。 Yes i was addicted to reading this series that I would read every book in a day。 Now my journey is over and I have no future or goal anymore。 I really hope Sutherland makes more books because he's really talented。 This book is actually not from a distant kingdom dragon's point of view, but is actually from a Icewing's point of view, which is very cool because as a reader, I love how the author doesn't just move completely onto a new story, but connects both sides together。 The dragons from Pantala who escaped from mind manipulation have now just reached Pyrrhia, and their first kingdom that they meet is the Ice kingdom。 Snowfall is the new and young queen for the kingdom, since Queen Glacier died and she chose Snowfall to be the nest queen。 Snowfall is a very。。。 strong personality。 She always has to do this the old fashioned way, and doesn't like helping other people。 She has a lack of empathy, which is where a magic tool comes in and makes her realize how other dragons feel。 This was a pretty good book to read, because the character development is huge。 Snowfall went from a non-empathy person to a kinder, better queen for the kingdom。 。。。more

Great, just like any other wings of fire book! The perspective of the icewing and the plot-line is different than others, which i like! You also get some “AHA” moments and hints of other foreshadowing events…I gave it 4 stars because i was unsure about the humans teaming up with the dragons。 I think Sutherland is better at dragons ^。^
Andrew Hiller,
One of my beta readers suggested I read Wings of Fire because it may work as a comp for my recent WIP, but also because it's really good。 So, I did something I've done。 I downloaded a print copy of Book 2, The Lost Heir and an audio copy of Book 14, The Dangerous Gift simultaneously。 After all, this was homework。What a pleasure。 The books standalone although with each you can read that there is a rich backstory and depth that you missed (which really ought to be true when you're starting on Book One of my beta readers suggested I read Wings of Fire because it may work as a comp for my recent WIP, but also because it's really good。 So, I did something I've done。 I downloaded a print copy of Book 2, The Lost Heir and an audio copy of Book 14, The Dangerous Gift simultaneously。 After all, this was homework。What a pleasure。 The books standalone although with each you can read that there is a rich backstory and depth that you missed (which really ought to be true when you're starting on Book 14)。 The characters are relatable, likable, the pacing is spritely, and the energy is good。 There's also a bit of there there。 These stories take place from the dragon's point of view。 Actually, they take place from the points of view of many species of dragon as they navigate an effort to prevent or win a dragon war。 But these aren't books of battles as much as books of character。 The books touch on politics, family, justice, and a host of growing up issues in a way that I think a middle school reader or an adult looking for a light fun read can enjoy。 If sometimes, the reader gets the point before the author makes it。。。 I think that's okay。 Who doesn't enjoy yelling at the hero in our vain attempts to try to get them not to fall for a trap or fall for the cunning lies of the enemy?Should you try these? Sure。 They're fun。 Should your children try these? I think they'll have fun, too。 。。。more

I really liked this one。My son (12) says this wasn't his favorite because the action slows down。 The whole book takes place over a day or two and sets up a final book。I liked the character of Snowfall-- she started the book over-the-top crazy paranoid, and ended up a much more well-rounded dragon through some fun magical means。In this book we run into a lot of the characters from all over the Wings of Fire series, including the (very fun) Dragonslayer stand-alone。 Since it's been a year or so si I really liked this one。My son (12) says this wasn't his favorite because the action slows down。 The whole book takes place over a day or two and sets up a final book。I liked the character of Snowfall-- she started the book over-the-top crazy paranoid, and ended up a much more well-rounded dragon through some fun magical means。In this book we run into a lot of the characters from all over the Wings of Fire series, including the (very fun) Dragonslayer stand-alone。 Since it's been a year or so since I've read them, I'm sure I missed a bit。 Ah well。I'm ready for book 15。 。。。more

3。8 StarsMrs。 Sutherland's style is as engaging as ever, but I get why everyone was calling this a filler book。 Snowfall was an enjoyable, realistic character, but her narration, I have to say, got grating。 I mean, I'm all one for unique character voices, but will all the ALL CAPS she felt younger than I think she's supposed to be, and subsequently a little OBNOXIOUS。At the end of it, though, she was a good character and I can appreciate that some folks have identified with her a lot。 Exploring 3。8 StarsMrs。 Sutherland's style is as engaging as ever, but I get why everyone was calling this a filler book。 Snowfall was an enjoyable, realistic character, but her narration, I have to say, got grating。 I mean, I'm all one for unique character voices, but will all the ALL CAPS she felt younger than I think she's supposed to be, and subsequently a little OBNOXIOUS。At the end of it, though, she was a good character and I can appreciate that some folks have identified with her a lot。 Exploring PTSD? Totally awesome。 At the end of it, though, the book felt like a very long prologue。 I suppose I'm just finding it harder to get into this arc。 I loved seeing Sky and Wren, as well as revisiting Winter, Quibli, and the rest of them (also loved seeing hybrid representation!), but hopefully I can grow a little more attached to the new cast。 。。。more

Very enjoyable overall, however, it felt very repetitive。 I loved reading it for the nostalgic aspect, I loved this series as a kid。 That being said, I knew the language was going to be a bit more basic, as it is targeted towards a younger audience。 Loved Snowfall's character development, and also the introduction of the Pantalan dragons to the new continent。 Very enjoyable overall, however, it felt very repetitive。 I loved reading it for the nostalgic aspect, I loved this series as a kid。 That being said, I knew the language was going to be a bit more basic, as it is targeted towards a younger audience。 Loved Snowfall's character development, and also the introduction of the Pantalan dragons to the new continent。 。。。more

Hey everyone, welcome back to one of Anna's Incredibly Chaotic and Allegedly Entertaining Goodreads Reviews。 Here we go!Well。。。when I started this, Snowfall got on my nerves。 I almost thought I'd found a WOF protagonist who annoyed me more than Sundew。 So, personally I thought that Snowfall's arc was very good, because I went from being driven UP THE WALL by her to actually quite liking her。THINGS I LIKED:- The visions were quite fun, especially the one with Glacier。 My stone-cold heart was melt Hey everyone, welcome back to one of Anna's Incredibly Chaotic and Allegedly Entertaining Goodreads Reviews。 Here we go!Well。。。when I started this, Snowfall got on my nerves。 I almost thought I'd found a WOF protagonist who annoyed me more than Sundew。 So, personally I thought that Snowfall's arc was very good, because I went from being driven UP THE WALL by her to actually quite liking her。THINGS I LIKED:- The visions were quite fun, especially the one with Glacier。 My stone-cold heart was melted a little。- Lynx。 I never understood why people shipped Lynxter before now, but I see it now。 - Speaking of which, Winter- My baby Daffodil turned up here。 Now if there was one character that I was not expecting to see here, it's Daffodil, and I absolutely adore her。 - The meetings with the Queens。 That was cool!- RIPNAMI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!- Snowfall has a delightful array of creative insultsTHINGS I DISLIKED:- Cricket got so sidelined。 BLUE WAS BASICALLY NONEXISTENT EXCEPT FOR THAT HORRIBLE HORRIBLE VISION (I MUST PROTECT MY BABY)。 Swordtail got mentioned like twice in the whole thing。 Bumblebee。。。there wasn't enough of her either。 On the plus, much less Sundew。- Snowfall in the beginning hurt my soul- We had Moon。 We had Qibli。 We did not have ONE SECOND of Moonbli。 May I remind you that they only started dating like a week ago。。。why are they not being more adorable?? Thankfully, they've both been sent as representatives so maybe we'll get some more Moonbli in the next book。- Wren and Sky。 Like many other reviewers, I'm not big on the fact that the humans are now getting to be a huge plot point。 Wren was far less annoying in this book than in Dragonslayer, unlike Sky, who was cute but a bit shallow and immature。 I cannot believe that there was somehow a romance implied between him and Snowfall。。。please spare us。 - Actually, it would be nice if Snowfall doesn't wind up with a love interest, because that never happens in this series。 Well, technically, it does, once an arc。 Ish。 If Sutherland somehow manages to force a romance between Sky and Snowfall, we're going to have to have BUMBLEBEE (the literal child) as the honourary single character for this arc。- Why did Glory choose a random-as RainWing named Pineapple (Snowfall is right, it is a silly name) as the RainWing representative。 I want Glory or Kinkajou。- The antagonist is still a plant。 No, I have not recovered from that。But that is the end。 I did enjoy this book AND I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT I'M GOING TO HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE NEXT ONE! Also I CANNOT WAIT for Luna and Swordtail's tearful renuion。 And it had better be a tearful renuion。 And I really, really hope that we get some form of closure with Blicket and that it won't be a horrendous SHIP TEASE, like everything in the first arc。 But that's all from me。 Eagerly awaiting the next installment in the series。 Also Jerboa I is just absolutely the worst ever。 The。 Worst。 Ever。 She's potentially worse than Morrowseer and Scarlet。 Anyway, that's all for now, folks! 。。。more
